Who am I
I am Maas van Duijnhoven, a 21 year old multidisciplinary artist who recently graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
As a small boy, I would find money wherever I would go and I quickly developped a habit of scanning the ground for treasure. As I grew older I became more invested in the world around me and my eyes were no longer stuck to the ground. Years later I revisited this habit of treasure hunting which opened up a new way of working and researching.
I draw inspiration from the shapes around me, focusing on finding forgotten objects and assembling them in new ways. Discarded objects that are considered ‘trash’ are the starting point of my creative process.
The characters that I use and the stories that I tell often derive from childhood experiences, interests and memories. For me, to play is to live and to live is to create.
